Susan Harriet Lee (née Lavin) passed away on April 21st, 2025, at the age of 88, in Tucson, Arizona.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Susan carried her vibrant spirit through every chapter of her life. In 1964, she made a bold and adventurous move with her family to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where she worked alongside her beloved husband, Dr. Herbert Arnold Lee, supporting his chiropractic practice and helping to build a life rooted in care and community.
Later, she would make Arizona her home, ultimately settling in Tucson in the 1970s, where she continued to cultivate deep friendships, care for animals, and share joy with everyone, fortunate enough to know her.
Susan will be remembered for her warm heart, her wit, and a sense of humor that could light up many a room. She was an avid animal lover, especially of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and she found great joy in sharing meals and laughter with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and life partner, Herbert Arnold Lee. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her daughters, Allyson Lee McAdams (Alan) and Jennifer Paulina Lee; her cherished grandchildren, Taylor Helena McAdams and Hunter Alan McAdams (Danielle); and her beloved great-granddaughter, Reese Lee McAdams. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved nephews and their wives and children.
Susan’s life was a beautiful tapestry of resilience, kindness, and humor. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her. As a tribute, we share a poem written about her as a child—capturing the spirit that remained with her always.
Oh, wave Susan, oh, wave away!
You with a heart so light and gay
At least you give joy and cheer,
To a friend who loves you so dear
On the avenue you heal my heart
Oh, wave Darling, do your part.
It makes me feel so happy and gay
When I see you on the street each day.
I have been ill for over 20 years.
I sure must have a strong will
Day and night I suffer with pain
With me it’s the same sunshine or pain
Oh, wave Susan make me smile
To forget my troubles for awhile
You with a heart so light and gay
Keep on waving, waving each day.
