SAMUEL “Sam” FRANCIS BLAKE III

March 25, 1955 - August 25, 2025

Samuel Francis Blake III left this life on Monday, August 25, 2025, following a long illness. He left behind the pain and passed peacefully with his family by his side. Sam was the son of Samuel F Blake Jr and Frances Wheeler Blake of Darien, Connecticut. He attended Darien Schools graduating Darien High School in 1973,

Sam was a Historian and Horticulturist. Sam was a Landscape Architect and Designer. He had his own landscape/irrigation company for many years. He is remembered for many beautiful installations that are still shared today. Sam was a well-known musician, he loved playing the drums, and was a mentor to many. Following his studies at UofA in Political Science, he toured across the country with his rock & roll band, Naked Prey. It was in Hobokan, New Jersey, where he met his future wife Joanne. Sam and Joanne settled in Tucson, Arizona.

Sam played with many bands throughout his life. Many musicians played with him in his music studio. Sam loved all music. His favorite song was his wedding song - Led Zeppelin, Thank You. And, Yellow Submarine was a part of his life with his sons. Sam was a Baseball Coach for his sons and more. He excitedly participated in every sport, school, and musical adventure they were involved in. Including Boogie Boarding in the monsoon washes to the beaches of Mexico. He enjoyed boating and fishing weekends with his friends, The Boys. As well as, many a camping adventure with family and friends at his property at Lake Patagonia. Friends from all over the world enjoyed his yearly Garden Party. And, Sam enjoyed just soaking up the rays in his pool with best friend, Stephen McManus. Sam is well loved by all. His family meant the world to him. Sam leaves his two sons, Samuel and wife, Maya, of California, and son Christoper, of Phoenix. He also leaves his Sister, Holly Blake in North Carolina, several nephews, and great-nieces. Sam leaves his beloved Soulmate, Joanne, of 40 years. Sam will be sadly missed.
