Michael Joseph Myers
June 11, 1946 - December 24, 2025
Michael J. Myers, 79 years old, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on Christmas Eve, 2025.
Michael (Mike) was born on June 11, 1946, the only child of Harold A. Myers and Lois Irene (Price) Myers in Phoenix. He was an Arizona native, raised in Casa Grande, lived in the White Mountains for many years and made Tucson his permanent home in 1984.
Mike graduated from Casa Grande Union High School in 1964 and regularly attended his class reunions, reconnecting with old friends. He attended Pacific Christian College in Long Beach, California and had a “grand” time in that scene, returning to Arizona after only one year. After school, he served in the Army National Guard of Arizona for 6 years and was honorably discharged with a grade of SP5 and permanent hearing loss. Mike married Kathleen Pennington in 1968 (divorced in 1995) and together they raised son Ben, and daughter, Jennifer in the mountain communities of Vernon and Timber Knoll and then, Tucson.
Mike spent his career building Arizona roads and bridges. After retiring from the Arizona Department of Transportation after 31 years in 1997, he used his expertise to work as a consultant with various engineering firms. He traveled often for construction projects, spending time in Phoenix, Flagstaff, Payson and Winslow, where he always found the local ELKS lodge (of which he was a proud lifetime member, Show Low #2090) and made many new friends.
A modern renaissance man, Mike dabbled in woodworking and photography, played guitar and appreciated music, art, culture and history. His record collection was enviable and he always had a story to share about a concert he attended. He enjoyed volunteering with local radio station, KXCI or at the Folk Festival, and loved attending all the cultural events Tucson had to offer. An unabashedly patriotic man, Mike also cherished his many travels to historical sites around the United States, and kept a well worn copy of the U.S. Constitution next to his recliner as reference for his political critiques.
Mike enjoyed the last 25 years of his life with his “lovely lady friend”, Paula, who preceded him in death in August of 2025. They shared many travel adventures together; Sedona, Portland, Washington D.C., New York City, London and even Paris. He supported her gardening hobby and cared for her during her illness. They were a perfect match.
Left to grieve his absence are his son, Ben Myers, daughter-in-law, Tracy and granddaughters, Courtney and Regan and also his daughter, Jennifer Bone, son-in-law Chris, grandchildren Carson, Faith (Alex) and Dylan and great grandchildren, Elena, Kinley and Derek. He considered Paula’s daughter Jennifer Thompson (Brett) and granddaughter Emily part of his cherished group of descendant blessings, as well. He often shared his pride for them all.
Raised in the Church of Christ, but not a member of any religious organization as an adult, Mike appreciated spiritually in its many forms and would want his mourners to show their respect however they choose. His wish was that friends would enjoy a nice, cold beer in his honor to send him on his way and the family will plan a gathering to do just that in the near future.
