1968 Michael 2025

Michael Joseph Clark

January 7, 1968 — June 5, 2025

Tucson, Arizona

We are deeply saddened to announce that Michael Joseph Clark passed away in Tucson, Arizona on June 5, 2025.

Michael was born in San Diego, California on January 7, 1968. He grew up in perfect weather, among loyal friends, and with a wild streak. He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 19 and commissioned as an officer at the age of 34. Naturally bright and linguistically gifted, he learned Farsi at the Defense Language Institute and studied Hebrew at the University of Arizona. In the military, he had several combat deployments in the Middle East, and spent significant time in the air.

After retiring from the military, Michael committed himself to serving others. He worked various jobs: first at the VA Hospital, then as a substitute teacher, and later with his son as an electrician. In his work and his life, he always treated the most vulnerable with kindness and respect. He was sensitive, empathetic, and endlessly funny.

Most importantly, Michael was a devoted father. He loved his children unconditionally and supported them in any endeavor. He passed on to them a love of science fiction, reading, and eating fast food. And he guided them into adulthood with deep knowledge and care.

Michael was incredibly resilient. He battled the forces of addiction and mental illness—a fight made even more difficult by the failures of the state and the economic system—to the best of his ability. Though his life was cut short, it was full of love and laughter.

Michael is survived by his family: Joshua, Sophina, and Angelique Clark. He is also survived by his two beloved and chunky dogs, Heidi and Winnie. We will all carry him with us every day.
