Joseph “Sohrab” Keyl January 2, 1939 – November 22, 2024
Joseph “Sohrab” Keyl, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on November 22, 2024, at the age of 85 in Tucson, Arizona. Sohrab was born on January 2, 1939, in Mashaad, Iran and spent a life rich with adventure and zeal for life.
Sohrab’s early years were shaped by the backdrop of a post-war Iran where he joined the Iranian Navy. As a young man, he emigrated to the United States, where he settled in the Chicagoland area and began building a life and contributing to the Persian community. Known for his love for a good party and a characteristic wit, Sohrab quickly became a cherished member within his friend group and Chicago's Persian community at large.
In his professional career, Sohrab worked as a computer engineer, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his diligence, drive and work ethic. He was a man of many talents, known for his love of Persian poetry recitation, Persian cooking, and traveling. In retirement, Sohrab continued to live an adventurous life, attending parties, traveling the world, and reciting poetry wherever he went. Sohrab will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Sohrab was very proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He is survived by his five children, Farzin Yousef D.D.S., Michael Keyl, Shireen Keyl Ph.D., Nasreen Keyl P.A., Edward Keyl, and six grandchildren, Yaas Yousef, Shadi Yousef, Michael Keyl Jr., Grace Keyl, Orly Keyl, and Teddy Keyl. He is also survived by nephews Reza and Davoud of Mashaad, Iran. He was preceded in death by his parents Sakineh and Gholam Ali Yousefkheyl, his brother Hossein, and grandson Dillon Keyl.
Rest in peace, Sohrab jaan. Your journey may have ended, but your legacy endures through your family and friends.
