John Algeo was born January 23,1951, in San Luis Obispo, California, to Catherine and "Jack" Algeo.
In 1960, the family moved to the Santa Ynez Valley outside Santa Barbara. John spent many happy years there where he learned to drive, tinker with machinery, shoot, sail, scuba and fly.
He graduated from Dunn School in 1968 and received many awards during his years there including Math and Chemistry awards, and the Dunn Trophy for Excellence. John founded the Dunn Computer Club and was active in the Rod & Gun club and the swim team. John was also a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
John went on to study at Harvey Mudd College and Colorado State University, Fort Collins. From 1971-1974, John took off time from school to move back to Santa Ynez and help his father build Santa Ynez Research Farm. During this time, he implemented one of the first agri-business computer systems and developed numerous software programs for animal feed, data analysis and more.
John returned to school at the University of Arizona where he received a BS in Animal Science with High Distinction. In 1981 John received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry. He continued with software development and research until his retirement in 2013.
John passed away in hospice care in Tucson on February 11, 2025.
He is survived by his wife, Christina, sisters Nancy Harrison and Rie Gilsdorf, son Robert Algeo, daughter Frances Fedoriska (Steve) and grandchildren Jack and Lorelei Fedoriska.
