Hazel Joan Wortley passed away peacefully August 20, 2024 at the age of 90.
Hazel was born in Laingsburg, MI on June 4, 1934. In 1952, Hazel Joan Darling married Frederick Sheldon Wortley, of Croswell Michigan. They started their family with four children in Michigan. In 1958, Fred and Hazel moved to Tucson, AZ and added one more child to make their family complete.
Hazel worked at Hughes Aircraft for 25 years. After retirement, she and her husband Fred moved to Roosevelt Lake where they enjoyed fishing and frying their catch for the neighborhood. They spent several years in Show Low, AZ where they enjoyed the cooler weather, grew a beautiful garden, hunted and fished. After enjoying life in the mountains, they returned to Roosevelt Lake, AZ. Fred and Hazel’s home became a family vacation spot where everyone came to visit and enjoy time together near the water.
Hazel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. A piece of her lives on in the countless blankets, stocking hats, baby booties and other crocheted treasures she lovingly made.
Hazel is survived by her five children Kathleen Bruce, Frederick Wortley, Diane Just, Roger Wortley and Edward Wortley; and 3 of her sisters Emma Dobson, Georgia Spitzley, and Viola Green (Terry).
Fred and Hazel were blessed with 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren as well as many others that have been a part of Hazel’s family over the years.
Hazel will be laid to rest with her husband at the National Veterans Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.
