Francisco "Pancho" Ortiz Martinez

June 30, 1927 – August 15, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Francisco "Pancho" Ortiz Martinez, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, who peacefully passed away at home at the age of 98. Born on June 30, 1927, to José Bernardo Martinez and Maria Jesus Ortiz, Francisco’s life was a testament to hard work, family, and love.

Francisco was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Elena "Nena" Padilla, and their daughter Rafaela. Together, Pancho and Nena shared 68 years of marriage, and she was the love of his life. Their love story remains an enduring legacy for their family. Pancho’s devotion to his family was unwavering; he considered them his greatest treasure.

A proud father to 10 children, 30 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, Pancho built a family that continues to cherish his memory. His great sense of humor and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him. Pancho had a special nickname for everyone, and his playful spirit was a defining part of his personality. He loved sharing jokes, scaring his loved ones with his fake alligator and lizard, and entertaining them with his wit.

Pancho’s work ethic was unparalleled. Raised as a rancher in Mexico, he moved to the United States to ensure his children had a better life. He made his home in Nogales, Arivaca, Eloy, and ultimately Tucson, where he lived for many years. He worked tirelessly in construction, most notably for Tanner Construction, where he spent several years as a concrete worker before retiring. Even after retiring, Pancho continued to work well into his late 70s as a gardener in Green Valley. Many of his clients affectionately dubbed him the "#1 Gardener," a title he wore with great pride.

Pancho had a deep love for music, especially corridos, and he had a special devotion to the Virgen de Guadalupe, which was a source of comfort and strength throughout his life. His family and friends will remember him not only for his dedication and hard work but for his love, humor, and the lasting impact he made on all who crossed his path.

He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and love. His memory will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his life and the lessons he imparted.

A private family service will be held, followed by a celebration of his life.
