Florence L. Weeks was born in East Los Angeles on January 17, 1938 and she died at Desert Gardens Assisted Living in Tucson, AZ on June 2, 2025 at the age of 87. “Flo” as she was known was remarkably healthy until she suffered an unexpected stroke on April 5, 2025.

“Flo” Weeks daughter of Albert and Audrey Otto, loving wife of John Weeks, died peacefully at Desert Gardens Assisted Living. She is survived by her daughter Kristen, son-in-law Brad, sister Pam, brother-in-law Lee, niece Amber and two grandchildren Sawyer and Ben. She was preceded in death by her mother, Audrey, her stepmother, Dorothy and her father, Albert.

Born in East Los Angeles, Flo moved across town to Whittier with her family when she was in high school. She graduated from Whittier College and began teaching upon earning a teaching certificate. Flo married John Weeks and they were together for nearly 65 years.

Flo had a passion for and commitment to education. She began teaching Head Start in East Los Angeles and then taught junior high youth for over 20 years in Phoenix, Arizona. She returned the University to earn a second Master’s degree in education. She shifted her focus to provide leadership with the Disabled Student Services Office at Pima Community College in Tucson until she retired in 2005. She was extremely proud to serve as an advocate and a liaison between students, faculty and other campus resources to help create an inclusive and equitable learning environment. After retirement, she volunteered for organizations that promoted the health and well-being of families, women and children including the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona and the Southern Arizona Regional Health Center operated by Planned Parenthood. Flo also loved animals, photography, supporting social justice, and the spiritual community at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson. Memorial donations may made in Flo’s name to the Tucson Wildlife Center, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona, or to the Southern Arizona Regional Health Center.
