Enrique G. Paz (Wong) was born on July 19, 1931, in Nogales, Sonora. He married Amalia Fu Dominguez, and together they raised seven children in Douglas, AZ: Enrique, Beatriz, Eva, Kory, Ana, and twins David and Ray. His beloved son Ray preceded him in death in 2013.

Enrique later married his second wife, Yolanda Paz, and welcomed three more children: Herman, Jeanette, and Roger which he raised in Agua Prieta, Sonora and brought them to the US in 1986 once he retired.

A man defined by his unwavering work ethic, Enrique dedicated 36 years to Phelps Dodge.Even with limited education and only basic English, he quickly proved himself and was promoted to foreman. He never missed a day of work until a devastating explosion left him with burns covering over 20% of his body. True to his resilient spirit, once healed, he returned to work, often taking on double shifts, working every holiday, and rarely, if ever, taking time off.

In the last three years of his life, Enrique received devoted care from his youngest son, Roger. The family commends Roger for his strength, dedication, and unwavering love. His selflessness and compassion made the final chapter of our father’s life a gentle, dignified, and deeply loving experience. He cared for Dad faithfully until his very last breath.

Enrique lived simply and joyfully. He loved his Mexican music, his cars, seafood, and spending time under the oak tree in his backyard in Bay Acres. His humility, quick wit, and warm humor filled his home with laughter. He often reminded his family, “A day without laughter is a wasted day.” He felt blessed to work for a good company, to live on the border, and always said Douglas was the best place in the world. Enrique had a beautiful, full life.

He is survived by 9 of his 10 children, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, his 5th-generation blessing. His words of wisdom to his family were simple but profound: work hard, be happy, live and let live, and be proud to be a Paz—a name that means peace, and a legacy he leaves behind for all who loved him.
