Donald Dean Smith, passed peacefully at his home on Tucson's east side on Dec. 15, 2025. Don was born in Pekin, Illinois on April 13, 1930. He came to Tucson as a young teenager where he attended Roskruge Elementary, Tucson High School, and the University of Arizona, where he lettered in track as a discus thrower. He married Janet Raver in 1952, served in the Air Force, then moved to southern California. It was there he graduated dental school at University of Southern California. He had 2 children, Julie and Dean, and practiced pediatric dentistry for 25 years.

In 1979 he married Patricia (Hedgecock) and moved back to Tucson, where they built their home in 1980. He continued with his dental practice both in Tucson and Benson. He was many things: a horseman, cyclist, furniture maker, picture framer, Rotarian and a Christian man who kept his faith close to his heart. He was a wise steady constant to family, extended family, and friends.

Patricia proceeded him in death. He is survived by children, Julie and Dean (Cindy) and grandchildren Dustin (Michael) Schulz and Cheridan Smith and great grandchild Weston Schulz.

After retirement he loved most being at his home nestled in among the beautiful desert vegetation and wildlife of La Cebadilla. In his own words, “I've had a great life.” We will miss him so much.
