Joe McDevitt passed from this earth on December 9, 2024. He was 63 years old. Joe was the son of the late Chuck McDevitt and Phyllis McDevitt. His family also included his late sister, Linda Sulu.

He was born at an Air Force base in Tachikawa, Japan, where his father was stationed. They lived in Japan until he was three years old. His father left the military and began his career in telephone work leading the family to Upstate New York, Wyoming, and finally to Holbrook, Arizona where Joe graduated from high school and went on to attend the University of Arizona where he fell in love with Tucson. He returned to Holbrook in 1982 where he met his wife, Cindy. They were married in 1984 and moved to Tucson in 1987 where they raised two daughters, Christy and Megan.

He worked as an HVAC technician for many years, ending his career working for the University of Arizona before he medically retired in 2021. He enjoyed golf and being with friends and family. He always cherished his wife and two girls and spent many happy times with them. The family traveled to many places together and after the girls left the nest, he and Cindy took the opportunity to spend more time together traveling and experiencing new places and people.

Joe had a full and active life and enjoyed all life had to offer. His hard-fought battle with cancer lasted for nearly seven years. Not many people could deal with all that was thrown at him but he kept going, wanting to be with his family and friends as long as possible. There are many fond memories that we all have to help keep him close, he will always be with us.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cindy, and his two children, Christy (spouse Vi) and Megan. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Chuck and Phyllis, as well as his sister, Linda.

There will be a memorial service January 11, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 11575 N. 1st Avenue, Oro Valley, Arizona with refreshments to follow at Cindy and Joe’s house, 795 E. Hemet Place, Oro Valley, Arizona. Joe wanted to have a party where everyone could come and share memories and be together.
