Ann R. Range (born Ann Janet Read) passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025 at Via Elegante Assisted Living in Tucson, AZ. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, M. Conrad Range, Jr., and her first husband, Richard F. Irving, the father of her four children.
Born in Little Falls, New York, Ann was the eldest of six children of James and Jane Read. Ann is survived by her four children: Richard F. (Lori) Irving Jr. of Vestal, NY; Robert A. (Louise) Irving of Perry, NY; Lisa M. (Peter Pardini) Irving of Mill Valley, CA; and Mary K. Irving of Tucson, AZ. She was the proud grandmother of Nichole, Monica, and Philip, and her five great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her stepchildren, Linda (Brian Berhosky) Range; Carol (Jim) Salvino; and Roger (Amy Bye) Range, as well as two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Alex. Ann also leaves behind her siblings James Read, Gail VanSlyke, Robert Read, Charles Read, and Chris Read and their spouses along with many nieces and nephews.
A woman of great intelligence and curiosity, Ann was an avid reader throughout her life. She began college at just sixteen years old and graduated from the State University of New York College at Geneseo. Ann was always engaged in community organizations and when her children were young, she focused on helping to build more recreational opportunities in the small town of Perry, NY where she raised her family. Over the years, Ann also opened her home to several foster children.
Ann dedicated her career to serving children with disabilities. First, as a teacher of special education and later focusing on blind and low-vision children as a children’s consultant and rehabilitation teacher. In 1998, in her honor, the annual Ann Range Children’s Award was established by the New York State Association for Education and Rehabilitation to recognize individuals who demonstrate dedication and commitment to teaching and advocating for children who are blind and visually impaired.
In retirement Ann welcomed new adventures such as skydiving at the age of 73. She enjoyed learning about other cultures and traveling to countries such as Turkey and China. In AZ, she joined a book study group with Turkish women who became her close friends. Ann delighted in exploring the shared values between their faith traditions.
She was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Binghamton, New York where she served as a lay minister. She also volunteered to minister to inmates at the local jail in Broome County. Ann and Conrad lived part- time between New York and Phoenix, AZ where she also became active with the All Saints Episcopal Church. There, she was a dedicated member of the Daughters of the King.
Ann will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her boundless love of children, her devotion to family, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
A joint memorial service for Ann and Conrad, will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 728 River Road, Binghamton, NY, followed by a lunch reception and celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Andre House of Arizona, an organization close to Ann’s heart, supporting individuals and families in need (andrehouse.org).
Ann's ashes will be interred on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal church In Phoenix, AZ.
