Aida Antonietta Polston Cordova, 81, of Tucson, AZ. passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at her home in Tucson, AZ on February 29th, 2024.
She was born on June 13th, 1942, in Tucson, AZ, the fifth of nine siblings to Eduardo and Aida Cordova.
She graduated from Tucson High School and enjoyed playing fast pitch softball with many incredible friends. She was a also active in bowling, golf, and slow pitch softball. She enjoyed playing in traveling softball senior tournaments. She was a member of the Tucson Rancherettes that won a gold medal in the National Senior Olympics in Pennsylvania in 2005. She was part of a team in 2022 that finished 5th in a Senior World Games softball tournament. She was an active golfer and won several tournaments and Douglas club championships. She coached softball and traveled to see her children play wherever they were playing. From trips to California, to New Mexico and Nevada. She was always there to support her children. She also traveled to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.
Aida was involved in many organizations that benefited local charities in Douglas, AZ. She was named the president of several organizations while in Douglas.
She loved spending time with her family and beating them in poker, horseshoes, cards. You name it, she was competing.
Aida is survived by her brother Ed Cordova (Carmen), sister Margaret Dean, brother Art Cordova (Sylvia), and sister Caroline Murray, her son Robert Polston, son Ronald Polston (Rebecca) and daughter Stefanie Gonzales. She has 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin infant brothers Abraham and Benjamin Cordova, sister Alicia Jones, and her special brother David Cordova.
Services are to be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on a date to be determined. The family ask for donations to the Arizona Oncology Foundation in lieu of flowers to aid in others experiencing the pain and suffering of cancer.
